Timothy D. Scrantom (Managing Director)

Timothy D. Scrantom is an American lawyer and an English barrister. For over thirty years he has been a law practitioner, law professor, writer and entrepreneur in the international law and finance markets, specializing in the area of litigation finance. Considered a "thought leader" in the commercial claim investment sector, Scrantom conceived and launchedJuridica Investments Limitedin 2007, the first publicly-listed (London Stock Exchange AIM) commercial claim investment company investing in North America and the first to be listed on a western stock exchange. He was the president of its management company. In an effort to further develop the intellectual wealth in this space, in 2009 he launched the Law, Finance and Capital Markets. Program at the RAND Corporation.

After Juridica deployed its invested capital, Scrantom left to start other ventures in the litigation finance space. In 2012 he formed SDIA, an investment bank providing financial services and/or capital to law firms, asset managers and claimholders in the litigation finance space.

Prior to co-founding Juridica, Scrantom was in private practice as a lawyer and an English barrister (member of Gray's Inn). He successfully settled high profile cases, including the business claims (Pan Am and London Insurance Markets) arising out of the bombing of Pan Am 103 by Libya, claims relating to NATO bombings in the former Yugoslavia, and U.S. claims against state sponsors of terrorism.

Scrantom's thirty-year career in law began in London in 1983 with Clifford-Turner (now Clifford Chance). His career has been a blend of active private law practice, academics, and innovation in the field of international law and finance. He has published over forty articles and papers in the areas of international tax, finance, commercial claim investing, and fiscal planning, and has been a featured speaker at or chairman of scores of conferences for professionals and government leaders in over a dozen countries. He has appeared in international television and radio broadcasts (including ABC, CNN, BBC) and has been quoted and featured often in international publications (Wall Street Journal; Reuters; Associated Press; The New York Times; Forbes; Fortune) in connection with litigation finance, international financial law matters, and international disputes.
